Catherine Pastis Radwanski, nicknamed "Katina", is a painter and sculptor. A native of Northern Ohio, she spent her childhood inspired by a mother who fostered a love of drawing, painting, dressmaking, crafts and needlework. Through elementary and high school Katina entered and won many art competitions and was frequently called upon by teachers, family members, and organizations when an artistic hand was required. She earned a degree in Art and physical education at Kent State University in Ohio. After starting a family, she moved to the Atlanta area, where she conducted adult art classes and workshops, received her Masters Degree in Art Education from the University of Georgia, and taught art for 15 years in the public schools. Her experience as a high school art teacher has allowed Katina to work comfortably in a variety of media and she enjoys this flexibility. She has been inspired by viewing many of the world’s great contemporary and historic artworks in her travels throughout the United States and Europe, and by working with numerous professional painters and sculptors. She has also studied with several nationally known artists. Katina’s compositions offer evidence of her love of drawing and design and her desire to tell a story. Sometimes the tale is quiet and meticulously detailed and other times the account consists of bold shapes, vibrating color or movement. Her paintings play with “the ordinary” in her representational pieces and examine the “subconscious” and “the collective human conscience” in her more conceptual work. In the past year Katina has been developing these themes three-dimensionally in steel. She works mainly in her studio but also paints en plein air in a variety of regional locations Katina shows work in many exhibitions and juried competitions and also creates pieces on commission. She maintains studios in Buford, GA and Hudson, OH. Other places featuring Katina's work: www.georgiawatercolorsociety.com (board member, 2007-2008) |
